Hebrew at the LTL 

Deepen your understanding of the Old Testament and learn to read the Scripture in its original language. Explore the poetry and nuances that are sometimes lost in translation or buried in the footnotes of your study bible.

Overview

The Lanier Theological Library and Learning Center offers introductory classes in Hebrew focusing on vocabulary, and grammar. As the class progresses, we will also study the theological significance behind the texts. 

Jack Messarra is our Hebrew Instructor and has been studying the Biblical Languages since 2005. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Languages and Theology at Houston Christian University and a master’s degree in Ancient Languages and Linguistics from Stellenbosch University. 

Schedule

The course takes place over two semesters, with 12 weeks of classes in each of the fall and spring semesters. To achieve competency, students should attend both semesters.

General Information

Course Fees: There is no course fee. Your only expense is the textbook and accompanying workbook (approximately $30 and $20, respectively).

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for Hebrew 101.  

Time Commitment: In addition to the 90-minute class once a week, we recommend setting aside 30 minutes a day for practice to make the most of your experience.
