Women in the Old Testament: Dignity, Status, and Interpretation
How do we as 21st century Americans, engage with the treatment of women in the Bible? Is it true as so many have taught that the Bible is biased against women; that Israel was a “rape culture”? In this lecture we will explore two case studies with these questions in mind: (1) the laws of adultery, rape, and seduction in Deuteronomy 22:13-29 and “The Law of the Beautiful POW” in Deuteronomy 21:10-14.
