What does it mean to see another person — someone whose politics, faith, or background is nothing like yours — as carrying the image of God? What does this fundamental Christian truth have to say about the loss or possibility of regaining community today?
This session sits at the intersection of theology, ethics, and lived experience, exploring how the concept of imago Dei challenges us to engage with human diversity not as a problem to manage, but as a gift to receive.
For Houstonians, this is especially relevant. Houston is the most diverse large city in America. Over 145 languages are spoken in family homes here. We are a microcosm of God’s world. If our food culture has benefited from the diversity that has shaped Houston — who doesn’t love a taco food truck or hand-pulled noodles in our pho? — what opportunities await us in understanding God’s kingdom here?
For believers and skeptics alike, the question is the same: Can we learn to see, value, and flourish in community with all of His image bearers?
